چکیده

Understanding the hemodynamic interactions of a non-cardiac system with the main circulatory system is a challenging task in modern medicine. In this study the effect of gastric myoelectric activity (GMA) on peripheral blood volume pulse, acquired by photoplethysmographic (PPG) technique during fasting and postprandial states are analyzed using wavelets. PPG and Electrogastrogram (EGG) signals were acquired simultaneously from 8 healthy volunteers for 30 minutes duration in both states. In this study the power ratio (PR), which is the ratio between powers of the signal in fasting state to the postprandial state, was calculated and it changes significantly. The correlation coefficient was significantly higher (r = 0.93; P < 0.05) between PPG PR value and EGG PR value. PR is a good indicator of hemodynamic changes in the main circulatory system caused by stimulation of other subsystem. In future such analysis can be used as a diagnostic tool for gastric disorders which modulate the peripheral circulations.

Effect of Kokum (Garcinia Indica) Rind Extract With Honey on Chronic Gastritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background and Objectives: Chronic gastritis is a chronic inflammation of gastric mucosa associated with various degrees of damages to superficial and glandular epithelia. Garcinia species are evergreen tropical shrubs, cultured in North-Eastern India and Southeast Asia. In Indian traditional medicine, the kokum fruit rinds are used to treat various inflammatory diseases such as gastric ulcers ...

Quantitative comparison of the effects of cholecystokinin, secretin, and pentagastrin on gastrointestinal myoelectric activity in the conscious fasted dog.

The effects on gastrointestinal myoelectric activity of infused pentagastrin, cholecystokinin (CCK), and secretin at physiological doses were studied in live dogs with implanted serosal electrodes during 56 six-hour studies. Pentagastrin dose-dependently increased gastric and duodenal slow-wave frequencies; secretin and CCK did not. Pentagastrin and CCK diminished the incidence of fasting migra...

Impact of vehicle seat back inclination on occupational driving safety

This study determined effect of automobile seat backrest inclination on lattisimus dorsi muscle electromyographic (EMG) activity. Myoelectric activity was determined at two seat backrest angles (90 degrees and 100 degrees inclinations).  Twenty-one (21) participants were engaged in the study. Electromygraphic activity at 90 degrees inclination had slope value of -0.065 mV/minute while ...

Human migrating myoelectric complex in relation to gastrointestinal transit of a meal.

Feeding interrupts the migrating myoelectric complex in most mammals. This study aimed to assess whether resumption of the migrating myoelectric complex in the human duodenum after eating was related to the gastrointestinal transit of the meal. Five healthy subjects participated in the study. After eating a radiolabelled test meal consisting of mixed liquid and solids, duodenal myoelectric acti...

Increasing the Accuracy of Blood Hematocrit Measurement by Triplicate Wavelength Photoplethysmography Method

Background and objectives: The importance of continuous monitoring and rapid and accurate informing of changes in blood components (e.g., percentage of hematocrit [HCT]), especially in acute conditions, has motivated researchers to use non-invasive measurement methods. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the association between blood HCT and photoplethysmographic signal and the possibility ...
